In one of my post, I’ve mentioned the importance of information and data and the necessity for its protection for others. I also did mention a process one can hide a drive from others for securing their data. Many thought that it was not that effective because anyone with little knowledge about computer can just type the drives’ name in the ‘run’ dialog box or ‘address bar’ and enter the drive easily. So, the security wasn’t that much full proof.
This time I came up with another idea of securing your data by preventing access to the specific drive. The process I similar to the hiding you drive.
- Start -> Run
- Type ‘gpedit.msc’ (the group policy explorer opens)
- Go to Local Computer Policy -> User Configuration ->Administrative Template->Windows Components
- Select the Windows Explorer
- In the right pane, click the option ‘Prevent access to drives in My Computer’..
- Click the ‘Enabled’ radio button, pick one of the following combination and press Ok
- Exit group policy
