Retailers have gone into a HD television full on war, and their ammunition has has been the pricing and performance of model brands they carry. When Wal-mart registered itself in that consumer HDTV warfare, a lot of providers would end up scrambling to surpass the chain’s wholesale prices. Wal-mart recenly announced that its 26-inch Vizio LED HD TV will have its price reduced from $198 to $298, while the higher end models like the 32” Vizio LCD HDTV is set to drop from $348 to $298 and the ultra 55” Vizio has been cut from $1098 to $898.
It's worth mentioning that since the FCC mandate digital transition, nearly all new TV sets come with a built in HDTV tuner which allows to pick up high resolution signals off air.
The makers of televisions like Sharp and LG electronics have also been scrambling to offset the cost of wholesale reductions amongst her investors and could very well be waking up to the fact that the war can be offset by output rather than costly technology that gets filtered down to users. This brings about disruptive marketing, that has the advantage of forcing manufacturers to outdo themselves without really compromising on quality. We can look forward to new innovations.
Many manufacturers offer a nice bundle of accessories with the TV set, most notably some of the televisions come with an hd antenna and some other even with a satellite receiver.
Vizio is not the only brand having to contend with price reductions, to keep up with the competition, Sony, Samsung and also gave in to the HDTV price war looming. It is predicted that most popular brands will have their prices slashed by as much as 25% in 2010, more so during the holiday season. Not even the LED TVs with brighter screens and those 3-D sets will escape the price war. This is good news for consumers, it means more people can afford HD TVS and will drive innovation even further.
