If you’ve installed different multimedia software (Winamp, PowerDVD, QuickTime Player, Flv Player, etc) for playing different types of multimedia files (.mp3, .mp4, .flv, .amr, .vob, .avi, etc.), then it’s a real tragedy because you don’t need to. Your very own Windows Media Player is actually capable of playing almost any type of media files. All you need to do is just install some codecs.
Short for Compressor-decompressor, codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of VFW/ACM codecs, DirectShow filters and related tools. There are other Codec Packs as well but it is extremely user-friendly, customizable and complete which is an advantage over other. Also, it’s update-to-date with latest versions of the codecs.
There are three versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack:
- K-Lite Codec Pack Standard contains everything you need to play all the commonly used formats. This package should be enough for the average user.
- K-Lite Codec Pack Full contains even more codecs. It also has encoding support for the various formats. This package is for power users and people who do their own encodings.
- K-Lite Codec Pack Corporate is a special version for use in corporate environment.
You can check out the detail features of all the three versions at CodecPackGuide.com. And for those who want to try and install the K-Lite Codec Pack, it’s free to download. Below are the links. Enjoy!!!
