Intel doesn’t seem to be resting its laurels on the praise it has garnered for it’s recently released Conroe series of processors. It’s hard at work moving forward and is expecting to sample and ship a desktop based quad-core solution in its range of ‘Core 2’ processors this November. Expected to come in two different iterations with a Socket 775 packaging the chips with both utilize a 1066 MHz FSB. The extreme edition 2.66 GHz which is called Core 2 Extreme Qx670 will be the first one out of the gate coming out in November. With a price of 999$ it will be compatible with all second-gen Conroe capable motherboard. A more mainstream quad-core chip dubbed the Core 2 Quadro Q6600 will debut early next year. With this Intel has really thrown down the gauntlet at it’s rival AMD who had announced earlier this year they were expecting to demonstrate their own quad-core solution sometime towards the end of this year.
