Create a Desktop Icon to lock your computer

Similar to making shortcut icons for Shutdown and Restart, you can also make shortcut icons for locking you computer which requires that a user needs to login before gaining access. The steps are as follows:

  1. Right click on an empty area on your Desktop
  2. Select New -> Shortcut
  3. In the first box if the create Shortcut Wizard, Type “rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation” (without quotes). Note there is no space between the comma and LockWorkstation.
  4. Click Next
  5. Name the shortcut appropriately and click Finish

There you are. You have created a desktop icon to lock your computer.

Just pressing Windows-L (Windows key then L) seems quicker
