This particular trick has also been tried in local network (my college LAN) only and not quite sure if it works over the internet. My theory says it should work; internet is a network after all. There are times when you need the files that are located in some other computer in the network and you are too lazy to go that other computer to get it. The easy way is to share that file over the network. By sharing those file other sort of gain the access to use that file, copy or even modify, if those privileges are given. The shared file will appear in others ‘Shared Files’ and is accessible to anyone who is in the network.
Other way around is using a simple line of command for accessing the resources on other’s computer. For this, the process goes a follows:
- Start -> run
- Type ‘\\computername\drivename$’ (without quotes) and enter
- Now if the drive is shared it should open without any problem else it will ask to enter the username and password of the domain administrator for authentication.
This process is also one of the ways you can hack into others computer. But for this you need to know the right username and its password.
